It’s not often that you come across sweets with such significance. At the heart of these little Violettes are the delicate, beautiful flower petals of the Violet of Toulouse. Unique to the city in south west France, the flower is in short supply. So much so, that since 1985 it’s become officially protected by horticulturists. But our friends at Le Jardin d’Elen are one of a few collectives in the region who have passionately dedicated themselves to the cultivation of this fragrant flower. For the people of Toulouse, the Violet is their symbol. It embodies modesty, simplicity and above all, love. And so by crystallising the petals into these Violettes, they are creating more than a simple sweet. These Violettes are one way in which the people of Toulouse share their passion for their flower, their city, and their culture.

Le Jardin d’Elen collaborate with local craftspeople to make these lovely Violettes, from violets grown in Toulouse. Some of these craftsmen and women have been perfecting the art of crystallising violet petals for over two centuries.

Violettes with Champagne elevates any special occasion. Drop one into your glass, and watch the tiny fizzing bubbles flow upwards, as the champagne itself is given an elegant purple hue. But you might also want to try these alongside a cup of tea, they’re a lovely way to add some sweetness.
