Estonic

Tonic made of upcycled Christmas trees. Zero waste just got its freshest taste.

Christmas trees create a lot of waste. But now Estonic has come up with a solution like no other. It turns them into magical tonic water, puts them in a bottle, and lets you enjoy a little bit of Christmas all year round. But Estonic isn’t nostalgic about Christmas. There’s much more to this drink. The taste is truly wonderful. It is incredibly subtle with hints of cardamom and lemon zest. But more than anything, you get hit by a freshness you simply thought wasn’t possible from a bottled drink. Imagine taking a stroll through the forest in the winter morning, the sun rising, the mist vanishing and streaks of light piercing through the corridors between the majestic trees. Each breath of air is crisp, cold and filtered by nature. Somehow, just somehow, every sip of Estonic feels like another step in the forest.

Made in Saaremaa. Made of Saaremaa. This is Island Land and it’s filled with Viking spirit.

Saaremaa is the largest island in Estonia, sitting in the middle of the Baltic sea. It’s famous for its natural beauty, its tall forests and long stretches of stony beaches. People here live in true harmony with nature. And Maarit and Tarmo are no exception. They are the founders of Lahhentagge, a brand named after their local village. And they are the creators of Estonic. In 2018, Maarit was stood in front of the local Christmas tree and decided there was too much good still to come from it than let it go to waste. They arranged to take the tree and turn it into Estonic, their award winning tonic soda. This year’s drink is from trees that were displayed in 2018. The photos in the gallery show the actual trees used for the current stock.

Changing the world one Christmas tree at a time.

This year, Maarit and Tarmo are taking their zero waste philosophy to Finland. Helsinki City’s main Christmas tree from 2019 is being turned into Estonic, as will Laviisa’s. And of course, Kuressaare’s tree in Saaremaa is also being used.

Mix in a gin and tonic. Drink like a soda.

Estonic is really versatile. Its subtle taste makes the perfect gin and tonic, letting the gin really shine through. But its fresh taste means a nicely chilled Estonic makes the perfect soda on its own.
